As a working singer/actor for over 35 years and an adjunct professor in the Music Theatre department at St. Lawrence College, Ian brings a wealth of hands-on experience to his teaching career making him a much sought after instructor of vocal training and musical theatre. He continues his education with vocal pedagogy courses with a focus on functional voice training and preparing his students for any style of music that they may be called on to sing in a safe and healthy way. Ian teaches students all across his home province of Ontario, Canada and now with the wonders of virtual lessons he has students across Canada from Vancouver to Nova Scotia and as far as Wisconsin, California, and Ireland.
He has been on the faculty of the St Lawrence College Music-Theatre Program since 2014 and a member of Musical Theatre Educators’ Alliance. He has studied vocal pedagogy at Penn State (Mary Saunders-Barton, Bel Canto, Can Belto), Somatic Voicework ™ (Levels I, II, III with Jeanie LoVetri), Boston Conservatory Vocal Pedagogy, Rock the Audition Teacher Training (Sheri Sanders), Soul Ingredients ™ (Dr. Triniece Robinson-Martin, Princeton University) and continues his personal development in staying current with the demands of the contemporary commercial singing voice.
